Snuck in some time at the park

Yes, that would be my children standing on my window seal. I have no clue why but Carter started doing this little trick and now he's obsessed. He's never been really spiteful but he is about this. He's been repeatedly been told no and in trouble but he still does it and thinks it's hilarious every time. I finally just took a picture because I feel it's a losing battle.

I packed a picnic for the boys and we head out to the park. The park that I originally wanted to go to was not what I had remembered so we went to the elementary school playground close by our house. I like it because it's fenced off from any road and I can let the boys roam without worrying about lots of people or traffic. Carter is definitely a roamer so this place let's me relax a little. The only downfall is there's no shade. It wasn't terribly hot today when there was a breeze blowing but that was a rare. After only being at the park for 25 minutes I noticed Carter was already red in the face from being overheated. No picnic at the park. But I did promise the boys we could check out the new bakery near our house. It's directly across from the school on the 341. It was a cute little bakery and the women and one man were super nice to the boys. Harrison was a total flirt showing off his batman sunglasses. We headed home with out box of treats. Lunch was a breeze since I already prepared everything for a picnic; just put it on a plate and we were good to go. The days are going by ok. We miss Matthew and that interaction. Harrison hasn't asked about him today which is good. I don't want him to be sad. Hopefully Matthew will get home at a decent time on Monday and enjoy a nice family dinner together.

It's Summer!

Summer is definitely upon us. But, I do have to say I'm loving the relaxing feeling. Not that I truly know what the hustle and rush of school days are just yet. Harrison will start going three mornings a week starting in August. But for now, we're soaking it all up. We were invited by Robin to join her and Carlee at Summer Waves. I haven't been in over 10 years therefore, the boys have never been. I knew Harrison would have a blast. Especially since Carlee was going to be there to play with. Harrison LOVES Carlee. Carter enjoyed himself as well. He wasn't a big fan of water getting in his face but that was expected. Harrison's first ride down the little kid slide was amusing. The look on his face was priceless. When he came to the end and realized he was going to be dumped into a shallow pool, you could see a little panic on his eyes but the lifeguard eased the transition. And then he was hooked. I couldn't tell you the amount of times he went down that slide. Carlee and Harrison would climb the stairs, wait in line and go down the slide as fast as their little (walking! pool rules) feet would take them. Ever so often, Harrison would come over to me and say "Mama" with a big grin on his face and give me a big hug and then he was off to the slide again. I understood that he was having a blast and was thanking me constantly, lol. At least that's the way I perceived it. Carter was mischievous. But that's nothing new for him. I honestly believe he would've walked and explored the entire water park by himself and not have even glanced back. I wonder if this boldness will last forever. We ate lunch at the water park and looked at the splash zone afterwards. Harrison nor Carter trusted the big bucket that slowly filled with water and dumped a huge waterfall on the crowd waiting below. Carlee loved it but I give her credit that she's a little older and has a bigger brother and cousin who probably helped her get over her fears. I suspect that soon enough Harrison and Carter will find the splash zone too. After a trip to the restroom to get clean and dry clothes on, we walked to the truck and buckled up. I was sure that the boys would fall asleep on the way home. We stayed way past the beginning of their naptime and the sun always makes for sleepy children. I drove over the Sydney Lanier bridge so the boys could enjoy the view. They both had wide eyes and huge grins the entire length of the bridge. When we got home Harrison wanted 1 Ritz cracker and asked to lay down (what?!? lol). It was a nice and hot summer day.

Carter's birthday

This post is overdue. I'm afraid that time gets away from me some times.

Carter's birthday was perfect. It landed on Saturday. We woke him up early before Matthew had to go to work and let him open his presents in his pj's. We had chocolate chip pancakes for breakfast and I made some yummy cupcakes to celebrate his actual birthday.

His party was on Sunday and I couldn't have asked for a better party. It was just the right size for our house and the kids had a great time. It really was a great day. My little guy is getting so big :)

Our September North Carolina Trip

It was perfect and beautiful. Good for the soul.
